Swansea UCU PGR Working Group

A working group by and for PGR students who work alongside their studies to organise for improvements in working conditions, and to help shape the actions of our local UCU branch.

We are organising around the following (though would love to hear your opinions):

• zero-hours contracts in teaching (for teaching assistants and demonstrators), and getting assigned to teaching positions / modules.
• what is counted as work (i.e., prep time for teaching).
• challenges for international students in getting work.
• training provided to undertake your work.
• overtime and the 6 hour / week cap on working (and how this works with marking and teaching).
• access to teaching qualifications, like the AFHEA.
